Part of being a “00” Agent involves understanding common spy lingo.  Below are some common phrases, words and terms used in the espionage world that every “00” Agent should understand.

A person working for an intelligence service.

Assassin • Noun
A murderer, especially one who kills for fanatical or monetary reasons

 

The beach • Noun
A vulnerable tactical position with no cover.

Bonafides •

Official information that proves a person's authenticity. legitimacy, or reputation

Bug •

A covert listening or recording device.

Burn Notice •
Noun
An official statement from one intelligence agency to another that an individual or group is no longer reliable.

 

Cartel • Noun
1. A group of independent business organizations formed to regulate production, pricing, and marketing of goods by the members
2. A group of parties, factions, or nations united in a common cause; a bloc.

Case officer •

A staff officer of an intelligence agency.

CIA •

Counter Intelligence •

The activity of preventing the enemy from obtaining secret information.

Covert •

Concealed, secret, disguised.

 

Decoy • Noun
A person or thing used to distract and/or confuse the adversary

Disinformation •

Deliberately false information released to mislead an enemy

Actions taken to obtain secrets from enemies or competitors

The United States cryptologic organization that coordinates and directs highly specialized activities to protect United States information systems and to produce foreign intelligence information
